Denise Tiran, MSc RM RGN ADM PGCEA, a midwife, complementary practitioner and visiting lecturer at the University of Greenwich, is aninternationally acclaimed authority on maternity-related complementary medicine. Denise is founder and Director of Expectancy which provides accredited complementary therapy courses for midwives – see www.expectancy.co.uk. Clinically, Denise specialises in treating women with “morning sickness”, using an integrated approach which incorporates several complementary therapies (CTs). She has written / edited ten books on various aspects of CTs, as well as the last three editions of the world-famous Bailliere’s Midwives’ Dictionary, three books for mothers and over 50 journal papers. Denise is on the editorial committee of the Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice journal, and is a Research Consultant to Canterbury Christchurch University, investigaring midwives use of an evidence-base with CTs, and the accuracy of advice on natural remedies given by midwives. Denise has assisted in the implementation of complementary medicine in obstetrics and gynaecology in Hong Kong and regularly teaches midwives, obstetricians and therapists in Japan and elsewhere overseas. She provides advice to the RCM and RCN on maternity CTs, and has advised the LSA midwifery officers in England on supervisory guidelines for midwives using CTs. |
